Coil springs have been among the most proven suspension systems in vehicle engineering for decades and are now an indispensable part of modern car and van chassis. While cars are typically equipped with coil springs on all four wheels, vans usually use coil springs on the front axle and leaf or torsion bar springs on the rear axle. However, these designs are primarily tailored to the original purpose of the base vehicles — not to the high continuous loads encountered in motorhomes, commercial vehicles, or heavy conversions. The result: overloaded standard springs lose their strength, the vehicle’s rear end sags, ride comfort decreases, and handling deteriorates noticeably. Our auxiliary coil springs provide a lasting and reliable improvement to ride comfort, safety, and vehicle stability.

In leaf-sprung vehicles, the standard springs on the rear axle are supported by additional coil springs. This targeted addition relieves the load on the standard springs, raises the rear end of overloaded vehicles, and noticeably extends the available spring travel. The auxiliary coil springs ensure that the rear axle operates reliably over the long term, reduce sensitivity to crosswinds, and enable heavy loads to be carried safely.

Goldschmitt auxiliary coil springs provide targeted support for the factory suspension systems on the rear axle — particularly in motorhomes and vans with high axle loads. They are mounted in parallel with the existing leaf springs, noticeably raise the rear end of overloaded vehicles, and thereby improve driving stability and handling. Especially with tall superstructures or an unfavourable centre of gravity, the spring systems reduce sensitivity to crosswinds and ensure safe, controlled handling in all driving situations. The systems are maintenance-free, robust, and designed for continuous heavy loads. Depending on the vehicle type, they are installed alongside or directly on top of the existing leaf springs and act as a powerful supplement to the standard spring. They are ideally suited for vehicles that regularly operate at high or maximum rear axle loads — such as mobile service vehicles, service fleets, municipal vehicles, or special-purpose vehicles. As an alternative to conventional leaf springs, coil springs can also be used as additional spring reinforcement. Depending on the vehicle model, they are mounted on top of or alongside the standard leaf spring pack, thereby restoring the original spring comfort on overloaded rear axles.

More payload through professional payload upgrades.

In addition to improved spring performance, auxiliary coil springs also open up the possibility of increasing the vehicle’s payload when the standard load capacity is insufficient. This creates valuable additional payload reserves — whether for extensive luggage, additional equipment, or heavy work materials. At the same time, the vehicle remains stable and comfortable, even under sustained heavy loads. A prerequisite for a safe payload upgrade is that load-bearing alloy wheels and correspondingly load-rated tyres are fitted or installed, so that the vehicle can reliably carry the higher loads. The reinforced suspension distributes the load optimally, relieves the standard components, and protects both the chassis and the interior in the long term. On some vehicle types, an additional spring optimization on the front axle can further increase the permissible gross vehicle weight and raise the front axle load. Last but not least, this also contributes to a noticeably higher level of ride comfort.
