Additional air suspensions are adjustable and provide support for the rear axle of overloaded vehicles—either manually or with the innovative RHC® control system, as desired.
Many vehicles, such as motorhomes, camper vans, pickup trucks, and commercial vehicles, reach the limits of their stock suspension. Heavy bodywork, uneven loading, and a substantial interior lead to a loss of tension in the spring steel, reduced spring effectiveness, and a noticeable loss of comfort. Many vehicles sag significantly, especially at the rear axle, which compromises driving safety and comfort. Our auxiliary air suspension systems provide a solution: They are installed in addition to the factory suspension and use air bellows to allow for continuous adjustment of the vehicle’s height. This makes it possible to raise or lower the rear, compensate for uneven side-to-side loading, and even navigate steep ramps with ease. Two control options are available: the classic manual control or our innovative RHC® control system with level adjustment at the push of a button.

The spring elements of an auxiliary air suspension system can vary in size and design depending on the vehicle model. Robust double-fold bellows are often used; these are either mounted directly on top of the standard leaf spring suspension or installed alongside it, thereby reliably supplementing the factory suspension. The wide variety of air bellows ensures that each air suspension system can be optimally tailored to the vehicle and its operating conditions.
High-quality hardware for maximum performance.
Our auxiliary air suspension systems are designed as two circuit systems, allowing the left and right sides of the rear axle to be controlled independently. This is particularly beneficial when the load is unevenly distributed. Motorhomes with kitchens, cabinets or heavy interior fittings can tend to sag on one side. Commercial and service vehicles equipped with shelving systems, as well as vans transporting glass or other sensitive goods, are also often loaded unevenly. Our systems reliably compensate for these load differences without causing the vehicle to twist or compromising driving safety. To ensure that our air springs deliver their full performance, we use the right spring elements for both our auxiliary and full air suspension systems full air suspension overview. Depending on the vehicle type, we use rolling lobe bellows, conical bellows or double convoluted bellows. Rolling lobe bellows are particularly suitable for AL KO low frame chassis. They offer a high stroke and flexible rolling paths. Conical bellows combine a compact design with a high load capacity. Durable double convoluted bellows are mainly used with standard leaf spring suspension and can also be installed easily in confined spaces. Every Goldschmitt air suspension system is supplied as a complete system with a high performance compressor and control unit. The compressors are powerful, durable and available in different sizes. This allows filling times, operating performance and installation space to be matched perfectly to the vehicle. The result is air suspension that delivers maximum comfort, high safety and reliable performance.

Greater ride comfort for AL-KO chassis.
Many motorhomes use a special chassis concept that combines a cab section, known as the front end, with a specially designed rear axle frame. A typical example is the AL KO AMC chassis, which uses the cab section of the Fiat Ducato. Since the central components of a van chassis, such as the engine, transmission and drivetrain, are fully integrated into the cab area, the rear section of the chassis can be replaced relatively easily with a specially developed construction. This construction is designed to meet the specific requirements of motorhome manufacturers and customers. Instead of conventional leaf spring suspension, these chassis use compact torsion bar axles. This results in a significantly lower chassis, allowing motorhome manufacturers to create a lower floor and therefore a lower centre of gravity. At the same time, the body has a completely level floor. This makes better use of the interior space and allows for generous storage compartments or rear garages. Unlike leaf spring suspension, the wheel follows a circular path as it moves upwards. This particular movement characteristic presented a technical challenge for many years when it came to retrofitting the suspension with auxiliary air suspension. Specially developed conical bellows solved this problem. Today, torsion bar axles can also be reliably equipped with a powerful auxiliary air suspension system. Goldschmitt air suspension systems are specially designed to meet these requirements and are ideal for retrofitting. They significantly improve ride comfort, driving stability and payload reserves in motorhomes with an AL KO AMC chassis.


RouteComfort – the perfect combination of plastic and air.
Due to their heavy body structure, many motorhomes and commercial vehicles require reinforcement of the standard suspension. At the same time, lighter vehicles such as campervans and panel vans often do not place enough weight on the rear axle to allow an potentially oversized leaf spring suspension to work optimally. In such cases, additional air suspension may seem like the right solution, but this is not always the case. An additional spring element always increases the spring rate and therefore reduces ride comfort. To ensure that air suspension can deliver its full benefits even with a lower rear axle load, it makes sense to soften the standard suspension, for example by removing one spring leaf or by using an innovative Goldschmitt solution. Our RouteComfort series was specially developed for the Fiat Ducato, Citroën Jumper, Peugeot Boxer and Opel Movano to significantly improve their often harsh suspension characteristics on the front and rear axles. On the rear axle, an innovative combination of a glass fibre reinforced plastic leaf spring and air suspension delivers noticeably softer response and an optimal ride height. Despite the additional air suspension, the system remains weight neutral or even lighter than the standard solution on many vehicle models, as the glass fibre reinforced plastic springs, weighing 15 kg per set, compensate for the additional weight. If your vehicle requires additional support due to an overloaded spring and a high front axle load, we recommend our reinforced Coil Springs for the front axle.


Controls – Comfort Meets Innovation.
In addition to the high-quality hardware, the control system is at the heart of our auxiliary air suspension systems. The classic standard version features a cab control panel with pressure gauges, a switch for inflating the air bellows, and bleed valves for the left and right sides (image on the left). To ensure the system blends seamlessly into the vehicle’s interior, we offer vehicle-specific dashboard trim panels for many models. Alternatively, universal control panels or versions designed for ISO-standard radio slots are available. The built-in compressed air pressure gauges are optionally available with lighting and a low-pressure warning and are already integrated as standard in some systems.
Those who want the highest level of comfort and maximum precision choose our RHC® control system: Precise level sensors continuously monitor the vehicle’s height, while the software automatically adjusts the pressure in the air springs—ensuring optimal leveling at all times, even with varying loads. Manual adjustments can be made at any time using the compact control panel (center image). With just three buttons, you can automatically set the desired ride height or manually raise and lower the vehicle. The free smartphone app for iOS and Android (image on the right) offers additional features—such as separate control of the left and right air springs, recalling a preset position, viewing live data and event logs, as well as an optional weighing function that determines the rear-axle load and displays it directly on the screen. The weighing function is only available on vehicles with sufficient suspension travel and must be installed and calibrated once by a qualified repair shop. The RHC® control system is already available for many vehicle models and can also be retrofitted to numerous standard systems from the Goldschmitt brand.



Load Increase – More Reserves and Greater Safety
Regardless of the bellows design and control system, our auxiliary air suspension systems are not only suitable for improving comfort and ride height control. They are also a proven solution for the technical Payload Upgrades of numerous vehicles. The continuously adjustable support at the rear axle stabilizes the rear of the vehicle, creating the basis for increasing the rear axle load and the permissible gross vehicle weight, depending on the vehicle type. In combination with front axle optimization, for example through reinforced Coil Springs, the front axle load can often also be increased, allowing the total payload upgrade to be increased further. Our auxiliary air suspension systems provide a flexible and sustainable solution for creating additional payload reserves while also significantly improving comfort, safety and the practical usability of the vehicle.
