In doing so, various aspects were identified that should be taken into account when using such accessory solutions. The term &#8220;support pads&#8221; is used below as a general term for all comparable plug-on or fixed-mount support elements.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attachment and ageing behaviour.<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Support pads are generally applied directly to or plugged onto the support plate. Even though manufacturers sometimes describe a secure connection during intended use, unintentional detachment during travel cannot be entirely ruled out due to the design, as no additional mechanical locking mechanism is provided in many cases. Furthermore, the long-term behaviour of such products with regard to material fatigue, wear, UV exposure, temperature fluctuations, and possible deformation and ageing processes depends on the respective material and product quality. A system-level assessment under all real-world operating conditions has not been carried out for the various solutions available on the market.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Weight, system behaviour and ground clearance.<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on the design, support pads add extra weight in the area of the levelling jacks. According to manufacturer specifications, this is typically between approx. 1.4 kg and 2.3 kg per jack. This additional weight acts permanently on the levelling jack system and can, particularly in the presence of existing, undetected leaks or age-related wear, contribute to individual hydraulic cylinders lowering slightly. In addition, the installed height of the pads alters the vehicle geometry in the area of the support plates. This results in a reduction in ground clearance during travel, which, depending on the product design, can be up to approx. 30 mm. This can lead to limitations particularly in manoeuvring situations, on ramps, at kerbs, or on uneven ground.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Force relationships during levelling and dynamic driving influences.<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When raising and lowering a vehicle using hydraulic levelling jacks, horizontal force components in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle are generated in addition to vertical forces. These arise, among other things, from chassis-related movements during the levelling process. This is particularly relevant for vehicles with AL-KO chassis in combination with an electric parking brake, as slight changes in the wheelbase can result from the change in vehicle height. In order for these movements to be absorbed without stress, a defined sliding movement between the support plate and the ground is required. Depending on the material and design, additional support pads can influence or restrict this freedom of movement. As a result, the lateral forces acting on the support plates, hydraulic cylinders, and the vehicle mounting points may increase. These effects depend on the specific combination of vehicle, chassis design, ground surface, and accessory used.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technical classification and use.<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From a technical perspective, the use of additional support pads is to be regarded as a system supplement that falls outside the standard approved configuration. The effects depend significantly on the specific design of the accessory as well as on the respective vehicle and chassis concept. A general approval for the use of such products can therefore not be granted. Use takes place outside the tested system configuration and is the responsibility of the user.
