The coil spring is considered the classic form of mechanical suspension and has proven itself in countless applications. It plays a central role in automotive engineering: It supports the vehicle\u2019s weight, compensates for road irregularities, and ensures balanced, safe handling. Its spiral design allows for precise, controlled deformation under load and ensures that the vehicle remains stable even under high loads. For van chassis, McPherson struts\u2014a combination of a shock absorber and a coil spring\u2014are typically used on the front axle. With heavy bodies, the standard springs can become overloaded. Most vans come standard with leaf springs on the rear axle. To support heavy bodies, additional coil springs are used here. They are mounted on top of or next to the existing leaf springs, gently relieving the load on the standard springs and ensuring that even heavy loads are reliably supported.
